As the only global professional swimming league operating on a truly international scale, it has attracted top-tier swimming talent by adopting the stance of treating these world-class athletes as stakeholders rather than products. By giving athletes stability in their careers and the ability to generate reliable earnings, the ISL has created a new paradigm in the world of competitive swimming and has put the spirit of competition and sporting excellence back at the heart of every tournament. Founded by Konstantin Grigorishin, who began supporting children’s swimming in 2009 and established the Energy Standard Swimming Club in 2012, the ISL has reshaped the professional landscape of competitive swimming.

How Does the ISL Work?

The International Swimming League, first established in 2018, is a competitive swimming organisation structured around a model of team-based, points-driven competitions. The league has attracted top international swimmers and has welcomed athletes from across Asia, Europe, Africa, North America, South America, and Oceania to its events. In its first season, ISL featured eight clubs (four from North America and four from Europe), and in the second season, added two more clubs – one from Canada and one from Japan. Even from its inaugural season, ISL included athletes from all six continents.

Each ISL season brings together ten clubs (eight in the first season and ten in the second and third) in a championship that features a regular season, playoffs, and a grand final. Every meet features four clubs, with swimmers earning points in individual and relay events that contribute to their club’s total. League points are then awarded based on team placement, ensuring that every performance directly impacts the collective result.

League competitions focus on a short-course format, primarily sprints and relays, and offer fast-paced events that are designed to appeal to both spectators and athletes.

The ISL is built on a foundation of putting athletes at the heart of operations, rather than treating them as a commodity. Athletes who participate in the ISL are stakeholders in the sport and are offered fair compensation and an element of career stability that is rare within the wider world of competitive swimming.

Why is this New Format so Valuable?

As the industry currently stands, economic security is rarely guaranteed to many of even the swimming world’s top athletes. Elite swimmers who enjoy global recognition and deliver world-class performances still, more often than not, find themselves constrained by limited prize pools, inconsistent and unreliable sponsorship, and minimal institutional support. This structure can make it increasingly difficult for top athletes to maintain a consistent income or for new talent to break into the sport if they come from a less-advantaged economic background. This format restricts swimmers’ ability to grow a career in the competitive swimming sector and can mean that potential new talent is unable to enter the industry due to financial limitations.

The International Swimming League is designed in a way that puts the wellbeing of athletes back in the equation and provides these competitors with an avenue to achieve sporting excellence without having to sacrifice their financial wellbeing. The new format for competitive swimming that the ISL offers is something that directly combats systemic inequalities present across the wider industry.

By incorporating elements such as guaranteed salaries, performance-based bonuses, and transparent revenue sharing, the ISL has built a structure that evens the playing field for athletes and teams from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. This platform opens up the competition to ensure that sporting talent is the primary qualifier for participation, rather than economic privilege.

Building a New Dynamic

The International Swimming League created a paradigm shift in the traditional practices of the competitive swimming sector. The league’s athletes first approach and fast-paced format evens the playing field and puts athletic talent and spectator entertainment back at the forefront of competitive swimming events. The ISL offers a window into what the world of competitive swimming can look like when athletes are treated as essential pieces of the puzzle rather than just products of the industry.

Black Pest Prevention Joins the 4th Annual NCPMA Bug Cup Golf Tournament https://www.newsanyway.com/2025/10/14/black-pest-prevention-joins-ncpma/ Tue, 14 Oct 2025 20:18:27 +0000 https://www.newsanyway.com/?p=141661 The greens were buzzing for a good reason as Black Pest Prevention joined industry peers for the 4th Annual NCPMA Bug Cup Golf Tournament, hosted by the North Carolina Pest Management Association (NCPMA) at Jamestown Park Golf Course.

The event brought together more than 110 golfers and 20 volunteers from across North Carolina’s pest control industry for a day of friendly competition, fellowship, and fundraising. This year’s tournament raised more than $21,000 for the NCPMA Extension Program Endowment in Honor of Mike Waldvogel at NC State University, along with additional funds for NCPMA Charities, including North Carolina PestVets and Professional Women in Pest Management (NCPWIPM).

The NCPMA Extension Program Endowment, established in honor of Professor Mike Waldvogel’s decades of contribution to the pest management field, supports the ongoing work of North Carolina State University. The endowment funds positions and programs that educate and advance professionals across the state – including research and training in pest control, mosquito control, and termite control, which are vital to both public health and environmental safety.

Representing Black Pest Prevention were Nicole Carpenter, President, and Brennan Carpenter, Vice President of Commercial Operations, who spent the day on the course networking, supporting fellow companies, and celebrating the shared mission that drives the industry.

\”You can feel the energy and goodwill at the Bug Cup,\” said Nicole Carpenter, President of Black Pest Prevention. “It’s one of those events where competitors become collaborators. Everyone’s out there to support research, education, and initiatives that strengthen the pest control community across North Carolina.”

As one of the few women leading a pest control company in North Carolina, Carpenter’s participation also carried special significance – particularly as the event raised funds for Professional Women in Pest Management (NCPWIPM), a program dedicated to empowering and advancing women in the industry.

The tournament featured long drive and closest-to-the-pin contests, two $10,000 hole-in-one challenges, and plenty of opportunities to connect with colleagues between rounds. Despite the threat of rain, the day went off without a hitch – proof that when this industry comes together, nothing slows it down.

Since its inception in 2022, the Bug Cup has raised more than $70,000 to fund research and outreach projects at NC State University – projects that directly benefit pest management professionals statewide.

Rams Coach Reaps the Rewards From NFL’s New Technology https://www.newsanyway.com/2025/09/08/rams-shock-texans-in-14-9-victory/ Mon, 08 Sep 2025 20:19:01 +0000 https://www.newsanyway.com/?p=141181 Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is one of the biggest advocates of the use of innovative technology in the National Football League (NFL).

His willingness to embrace tech appeared to pay dividends on Sunday, as the Rams defeated Houston Texans 14-9 at the SoFi Stadium.

The NFL 2025 season predictions by Spreadex Sports suggest the result was unexpected given that none of the Rams players were rated as contenders for individual awards this term.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford may have felt particularly affronted by his omission from the debate about which player will win the MVP award this season.

Stafford became only the tenth quarterback in NFL history to reach 60,000 career passing yards after throwing for 245 yards against the Texans.

His composure under pressure was highlighted by a crucial completion to wide receiver Puka Nacua for a 24-yard gain on third and eight in the final two minutes.

Stafford’s trust in Nacua was demonstrated by the fact that 130 of his passing yards went to him, and McVay has undoubtedly played a key role in their relationship.

Utilisation of technology has been a core element of McVay’s coaching style in the NFL, and he will not be changing his methods this season.

McVay has been effusive in his support of a new multi-year strategic partnership between Microsoft and the NFL which will usher in a new year of artificial intelligence (AI) innovation.

Microsoft Copilot and Azure AI will enhance the way coaches connect insights from the sidelines to their players when they are on the field.

The Sideline Viewing System (SVS) powered by Copilot provides real-time data which helps coaches make informed decisions in a more efficient and customized way.

The link-up between Stafford and Nacua in a crucial moment during the game will have been driven by the insights provided by the SVS technology.

“This is a space that we’ve really leaned heavily into,” McVay said. “It’s coming and it’s going to be a valuable tool. You can’t run away from it.

“This is an opportunity for us to say – in a league that has such small margins of victory week in and week out because of the level of competition – what are some of the ways that we can create edges or win in the margins?”

The benefits of the technology are not limited to in-game decision-making, with McVay claiming the data it provides can be used ahead of kick-off.

The system is an invaluable tool to data analysts, who will be able to use it to provide more detailed game strategies in the run-up to NFL fixtures.

It significantly speeds up the process of gathering information, which can be critical in recognising offensive and defensive formations.

“We have people up in the booth who are responsible for charting a lot of the things that Copilot can sequence and segment in a much more accelerated manner, and so that’s going to allow us to be able to make better in-game decisions,” McVay added.

“And it’s going to increase the overall efficiency of what we’re trying to get to our players in real-time. It’s going to be a big deal for us.”

Having defeated the Texans in their opening game of the season, the Rams have laid the foundations to enjoy a productive year in NFC West.

It will be intriguing to see how McVay’s utilisation of the latest technology impacts their fortunes during the rest of the campaign.

10 Unusual Aquatic Events from Around the World https://www.newsanyway.com/2025/08/09/10-unusual-aquatic-events-from-around-the-world/ Sat, 09 Aug 2025 08:24:41 +0000 https://www.newsanyway.com/?p=140781 Water covers more than 70% of our planet, and humans have found various ways to celebrate, compete, and connect through it. While most of us are familiar with swimming, surfing, or sailing, some aquatic events are wildly creative, culturally significant, or just plain bizarre.

These unusual water-based traditions and competitions reflect the diversity of human imagination and our deep connection with water. So, in this blog, let’s dive into 10 of the most unusual aquatic events worldwide.

1. Hair Freezing Contest – Canada

This contest is held annually at the Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs near Whitehorse, Yukon. Participants soak in the natural hot springs, where the water stays around 40°C even when outside temperatures drop below -30°C. The cold air rapidly freezes their wet hair, which they mould into bizarre and hilarious shapes.

Then, they take a photo of their frosty creations, and winners are chosen based on creativity. Categories include “Best Male Hairdo,” “Best Female Hairdo,” and even “People’s Choice.” It’s not just about looking funny — it’s a celebration of the Canadian winter spirit and the raw beauty of the Arctic landscape.

2. World Bog Snorkelling Championship – Wales

Forget crystal-clear pools and elegant strokes. In the Welsh town of Llanwrtyd Wells, participants don snorkels and flippers to swim through a 60-yard trench cut into a peat bog. The rules? No traditional swimming strokes are allowed. Competitors must rely solely on flipper power.

It might sound absurd, but the event has become an international sensation, drawing participants from across the globe. There’s even a fancy-dress category, where snorkelers go all out with hilarious costumes. What began as a quirky idea in the 1970s has grown into a favourite celebration of eccentricity and muddy determination today!

3. Śmigus-Dyngus (Wet Monday) – Poland

The Monday after Easter in Poland is anything but ordinary. This centuries-old tradition, known as Śmigus-Dyngus or Wet Monday, involves people splashing each other with water. What started as a playful courtship ritual has evolved into a nationwide water fight.

Buckets, water guns, and even garden hoses come out to soak friends, family, and sometimes unsuspecting strangers. While it’s all in good fun, the roots of this celebration lie in pre-Christian Slavic customs tied to purification and fertility. Today, it’s a vibrant and joyful way to welcome spring and connect with cultural heritage. Isn’t that splashtastic?

4. Underwater Music Festival – USA

Yes, you read it right! Every summer, the waters of the Florida Keys come alive with music. We mean it quite literally! The Underwater Music Festival is held at Looe Key Reef and invites divers and snorkelers to experience a surreal aquatic concert. Speakers suspended underwater play ocean-themed tunes, while costumed divers mimic playing whimsical “instruments” like fish-shaped guitars.

The festival isn’t just for entertainment. It’s a creative way to promote marine conservation and awareness about coral reef protection. This unique combo of music, art, and environmentalism makes it a must-see (and must-hear) event for ocean lovers.

5. The Loony Dook – Scotland

If jumping into freezing water sounds like a terrible way to start the year, think again. In South Queensferry, just outside Edinburgh, hundreds of people, dressed up in wacky costumes, run into the icy Firth of Forth on January 1st as part of the Loony Dook.

The event began in 1986 as a joke among friends and has since become a cherished New Year’s Day tradition. Participants often dress as superheroes, animals, or outlandish characters, bringing humour to the challenge. It’s a bracing, invigorating way to welcome the new year and shake off the cobwebs of Hogmanay (New Year’s Eve) celebrations.

6. Death Diving World Championship – Norway

This event is known locally as “Dodsing”. It’s a Norwegian event, but not for the faint-hearted. Competitors hurl themselves off a 10-meter diving board, launching into elaborate mid-air stunts before belly-flopping into the water. The goal? Maximum impact and flair!

Unlike traditional diving, where grace and precision are prized, Death Diving is about bravado, creativity, and pain tolerance. Despite the name, the sport has grown in popularity and includes safety regulations to prevent serious injury. It’s a chaotic blend of athleticism and performance art that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats.

7. Argungu Fishing Festival – Nigeria

One of the largest cultural festivals in Africa, the Argungu Fishing Festival is a spectacular showcase of tradition and community. Thousands of fishermen wade into the Mata Fada River using large fishnet scoops made of reeds. They get just one hour to catch the biggest fish using only their bare hands or nets.

The festival, which dates back over 80 years, includes music, dance, wrestling, and cultural displays. More than just a fishing competition, it’s regarded as a symbol of peace, unity, and pride for the local people. The event also attracts tourists and dignitaries from around the world, highlighting Nigeria’s rich heritage.

8. Jindo Miracle Sea Road Festival – South Korea

Imagine witnessing the sea parting like in a biblical story. That’s exactly what happens during the Jindo Miracle Sea Road Festival. Each year, a natural phenomenon causes the sea between Jindo and Modo Islands to recede, revealing a temporary land bridge about 2.8km long.

Thousands of visitors walk across the seabed, often dressed in traditional hanbok and carrying colourful flags. Rooted in a local legend about a woman seeking her family, the festival is both a spiritual and cultural celebration that attracts awe-struck crowds.

9. Darwin Beer Can Regatta – Australia

The Darwin Beer Can Regatta at Mindil Beach is a riotous event where participants construct makeshift vessels from recycled cans, bottles, and plastic containers.

The regatta includes races, tug-of-wars, and novelty events like “Battle of the Boats.” Teams dress in wild costumes and embrace the spirit of fun and sustainability. The event not only showcases Aussie humour and ingenuity but also encourages environmental awareness and community participation.

10. Kasedori Festival – Japan

In the snowy town of Kaminoyama, the Kasedori Festival sees men dressed as straw birds running through the streets while being doused with water. This centuries-old ritual is believed to protect homes from fire and bring good luck for the coming year.

Participants chant and dance as they make their rounds, creating a festive and somewhat surreal atmosphere. The soaked straw outfits, combined with the winter chill, make this a test of endurance and dedication. It’s indeed a beautiful example of how water is used symbolically in Japanese culture.

Bonus Splash: The Manu Dive – A True Kiwi Favourite

We couldn’t wrap up this list without giving a shoutout to something that’s pure New Zealand, right? This is about the legendary Manu Dive.

More than just a cannonball, the manu is a big part of Māori and Pasifika culture and a proud Kiwi tradition. It’s all about making the biggest, loudest splash you can. The dive starts with a dramatic leap off a platform, legs forward and arms back in a V-shape, before landing hard on your backside to send water flying everywhere.

What used to be a fun summer trick is now a serious sport. Competitors are judged on the height, size, and even the sound of their splash, so it’s not just about power, it’s about style too!

Thinking about giving it a go? Or maybe you just want to feel more confident in the water? Swimming lessons in Auckland are a great place to start. Whether you’re chasing the perfect manu or just want to improve your skills, learning to swim opens up a whole world of water fun in Kiwi style!

Final Thoughts

These unusual aquatic events show just how imaginative, diverse, and meaningful water-related traditions can be worldwide. From icy plunges to musical reefs, muddy races to miraculous sea partings, each event offers a unique window into the communities and cultures that created them.

Whether you’re an adventurer looking for your next thrill or a cultural enthusiast looking for deeper stories, these aquatic spectacles prove that the world is full of surprises. Water, in all its forms, continues to inspire joy, challenge, celebration, and connection across the globe.

So why not dive into something new?

Jill Lamontagne’s Insights on Pitching Rules for Youth Softball https://www.newsanyway.com/jill-lamontagnes-insights-on-pitching-rules-for-youth-softball/ Wed, 28 May 2025 14:52:23 +0000 https://www.newsanyway.com/?p=140085 Jill Lamontagne is a whole-person wellness advocate and youth sports leader based in Kennebunk, Maine. With a dual background in health sciences and special education law, she currently serves as Assistant Supervisor of Adult Case Management at Waypoint, where she oversees client-centered service delivery and wellness planning. A former high school health educator and active coach in youth softball, basketball, and field hockey, Jill brings both clinical insight and real-world coaching experience to the conversation on player safety. Her holistic approach to youth development and injury prevention makes her a trusted voice on maintaining athlete well-being in growing sports like softball.

Softball and baseball are two of America’s most popular youth sports. In 2023, nearly 25.5 million individuals played baseball or softball. Together, the sports enjoyed a 7.6 percent year-over-year participation increase—larger than those of basketball and football—according to the World Baseball Softball Confederation.

As the sports continue to grow in popularity among American youth, coaches and other leaders must look after player safety. In softball, this includes adhering to recommended pitch count guidelines.

The pitch count in softball is very simple, but it has serious implications on player health. The pitch count is a running total of the pitches a single player has delivered during a game and, in some cases, the amount of pitches they have delivered over multiple games in the same week.

The purpose of observing the pitch count is to preserve the health of a player’s arm and minimize the risk of injury. Following pitch count guidelines also prevents coaches from placing all of a team’s pitching responsibilities on a single player.

In the United States, softball pitch count rules are governed by Little League. The organization has researched and experimented with arm safety programs for nearly two decades, dating back to Little League’s initial pitch count program in 2006. Little League has also partnered with Major League Baseball and USA Baseball to support the Pitch Smart campaign, which provides additional insights into pitch counts and rest periods for pitchers.

Youth baseball manages pitch count guidelines separate from those of softball. Little League pitchers and coaches are subject to a hard pitch count. A player between the ages of 6 and 8, for instance, cannot throw more than 50 pitches in a single day, while a 16-year-old pitcher can deliver 95 pitches per day, daily rest thresholds notwithstanding.

For instance, if a 14-year-old pitcher delivers 66 or more pitches in one game, they must complete four calendar days of rest before they can pitch again, but they can pitch the very next day if they do not exceed 20 pitches in a game.

Pitch count rules in softball are especially important because players use the windmill pitch, which requires a complex blend of arm and shoulder coordination, mobility, and strength. (Little League does not mandate hard pitch count rules for fastpitch softball pitchers, though several related rules have been installed.)

To begin, players aged 12 and over cannot pitch in Minor League softball games, while players aged 15 and older may be barred by a local league board from pitching in the junior division. An eligible pitcher can complete 12 innings in a single day. Anytime a pitcher exceeds six innings pitched, that player must complete at least one day of rest before they can pitch again.

For these rules, a single pitch equates to having pitched in an inning. In Junior/Senior League Softball, pitchers are not governed by any pitch count or rest rules, despite softball players experiencing injuries at a comparable rate to baseball players. That said, Little League permits local districts and boards of directors to introduce expanded pitching rules during regular season and interleague play.

Youth softball coaches should perform independent research regarding softball pitch counts. For example, Dale J. Buchberger has developed a system similar to Little League, with pitchers aged 13–14 limited to 80 pitches per game.

Managing pitch count can help mitigate overuse and other injuries, such as rotator cuff tears and anterior shoulder strains.

How Can You Get Kids Excited About Sports? Try These Six Fun Fixes https://www.newsanyway.com/2025/03/12/how-can-you-get-kids-excited-about-sports-try-these-six-fun-fixes/ Wed, 12 Mar 2025 14:03:42 +0000 https://www.newsanyway.com/?p=139456 Getting kids and teens excited about sports can feel like trying to convince them that homework is fun—challenging, but not impossible. The key? Making sports feel like play, not pressure. The right mix of safety, style, and creativity can turn even the most reluctant participant into an enthusiastic athlete. Here’s how to make sure young players keep coming back for more.

Keep Kids Safe and Still Have Fun

Nothing kills the fun faster than an injury. Skinned knees, twisted ankles, or worse—nobody wants to be sidelined. The trick is making safety a top priority without making it feel like a chore. Protective gear should be non-negotiable, but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Sleek helmets, custom mouthguards, and cool knee pads can make safety feel like an upgrade, not a burden.

Coaches and parents should also emphasize smart play. Pushing too hard or ignoring pain is a recipe for disaster. Teaching kids how to stay safe and thrive on the field ensures they can keep playing without unnecessary risks. When young athletes feel protected, they can focus on the best part—having fun.

Get the Right Gear and Make it Cool

When kids love what they wear, they bring a whole different energy to the game. Instead of treating gear as a requirement, turn it into a form of self-expression. Whether it’s flashy cleats, custom jerseys, or even pink football gear, the right look can build confidence and excitement.

This goes beyond just looking cool. Comfortable, well-fitting gear improves performance, making movements easier and play more enjoyable. No one wants to be distracted by itchy fabric or shoes that feel like bricks. Let kids pick their own styles, and suddenly, getting dressed for practice feels less like a task and more like a treat.

Look Beyond Traditional Sports

Not every kid is dreaming of scoring the game-winning goal or running the fastest lap. That’s okay. The key is finding activities that match their interests. Some kids prefer the structure of a team sport, while others thrive in individual challenges like rock climbing, martial arts, or skateboarding.

The solution? Offer choices. Some might love the competitive edge of basketball, while others enjoy the creativity of parkour. By expanding the definition of “sports,” more kids can find their niche. When they’re playing something they actually enjoy, staying active stops feeling like a requirement and starts feeling like a reward.

Parents and Coaches can Keep the Fun Factor High

Pressure to win can turn sports from a source of joy into a stress-filled obligation. Kids who feel like every game is a must-win battle are more likely to burn out or quit altogether. Instead of focusing on the scoreboard, emphasize personal growth, teamwork, and effort.

A little creativity goes a long way. Turn drills into games, switch up practice locations, and celebrate small victories. Even simple tweaks—like themed practices or surprise rewards—can make a huge difference. When fun comes first, improvement follows naturally.

Technology can Make Sports More Engaging

If kids are glued to their screens, why not use that to your advantage? Sports-related apps, virtual training tools, and interactive challenges can turn exercise into a game. Motion-tracking video games, step-counting competitions, and fitness trackers add an extra layer of motivation.

For team sports, recording games or practices can make a huge impact. Watching themselves in action helps young athletes spot strengths and areas to improve—while also giving them highlight-reel moments to share with friends. When tech meets training, participation skyrockets.

Keep the Excitement Going Long-Term

The initial thrill of a new sport can wear off fast if it starts feeling repetitive. Keeping kids engaged means shaking things up. Introducing new skills, changing up practice formats, and even allowing breaks can prevent boredom.

Creating social connections is another game-changer. Whether through team-building activities, friendly competitions, or post-game hangouts, sports should be about more than just performance. The friendships, laughs, and shared memories are what keep kids coming back season after season.

The Final Play

Making sports fun isn’t about forcing enthusiasm—it’s about setting the stage for excitement to grow naturally. When kids feel safe, comfortable, and in control of their own athletic journey, they’ll want to keep playing. The more fun they have, the more likely they are to stick with it—and maybe even inspire the next generation of athletes along the way.

Athens Kallithea FC’s Financial Strategy: A Model For Sustainable Growth https://www.newsanyway.com/2025/03/03/athens-kallithea-fcs-financial-strategy-a-model-for-sustainable-growth/ Mon, 03 Mar 2025 16:16:50 +0000 https://www.newsanyway.com/?p=139358 Andrew Barroway’s acquisition of the Athens Kallithea Football Club (AKFC) as a majority owner was a much-anticipated development in the football world. After having achieved unprecedented success with the NHL team, the Arizona Coyotes Hockey Club (ACHC), he embarked on this new venture that ultimately changed the face of Greek football as we know it.

But the hedge fund mogul and seasoned legal professional had a lot more on his mind than Athens Kallithea FC’s success on the playing field. What he envisioned was a plan for the team’s sustainable growth by way of a carefully planned financial strategy that drew on his considerable talents, formidable investment knowledge, and unparalleled leadership ability.

Laying the Groundwork for Athens Kallithea FC’s Sustainable Growth

Given Andrew Barroway’s financial expertise, AKFC’s stature as a model for sustainable growth was assured. Utilizing the same leadership and management styles that fueled his hugely successful career as a hedge fund manager, he employs a strategic and disciplined approach to steering the team toward greater heights.

For the innovative and forward-thinking business leader, the plan was simple: position AKFC as a competitive force in the local and international football arena, thereby ensuring its long-term financial stability.

Simple it may have been, but the plan required a firm leader with a definitive vision to succeed. To achieve his goal, Andrew adopts a two-pronged approach that strikes the ideal balance between shrewd investments and operational efficiency. This proven financial strategy involved upgrading the team’s infrastructure, expanding its pool of talents, and bolstering the AKFC brand without overextending its resources.

As with all his previous endeavors, Andrew was focused on ensuring the team’s revenue growth. He therefore formulated a proactive campaign to increase ticket sales, attract sponsors, and tap into more lucrative merchandising opportunities.

Of course, Andrew wouldn’t be the innovative and forward-looking leader that he is if he didn’t have a pulse on the cutting-edge of technology. Together with his team of digital marketing specialists, he devised a roadmap for leveraging digital platforms to increase and enhance engagement among global audiences. This strategy opened new income streams for the team while strengthening and diversifying its already expansive fan base.

Andrew Barroway’s financial strategy for Athens Kallithea FC was more than just about improving the team’s standing. Rather, it amply demonstrates how financial discipline and strategic investment can bring about sustainable growth. Along with maintaining the club’s core values, this approach has made AKFC a model for other Greek football clubs, while contributing to the broader evolution of the sport.

Andrew Barroway’s Vision for AKFC

What primarily drove Andrew’s efforts was the desire to elevate AKFC to a place of prominence on the international stage. By extension, he also hoped to achieve the same goal for Greek football in general, making it a formidable force to be reckoned with among sports fans all over the world.

It was a lofty goal to be sure, but Andrew was never known to shy away from a challenge. Considering his exemplary leadership and business acumen, there is no doubt that he will continue to overcome all obstacles to making his vision a reality.

Boise State University’s Kellen Moore Leads Eagles to Super Bowl Championship https://www.newsanyway.com/2025/03/03/boise-state-universitys-kellen-moore-leads-eagles-to-super-bowl-championship/ Mon, 03 Mar 2025 13:41:40 +0000 https://www.newsanyway.com/?p=139352 The Philadelphia Eagles dismantled the Kansas City Chiefs’ hopes of winning the championship with a commanding 40-22 victory in the 2025 Super Bowl. The Birds victory showcased an offensive masterpiece orchestrated by coordinator Kellen Moore, a Boise State University alum, and a dominating defensive performance that rattled NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes.

And in more good news for Moore, he’s just been named the new head coach for the New Orleans Saints, another feather in Boise State University’s cap.

Jalen Hurts earned MVP honors with a record-setting performance, rushing for 72 yards — a Super Bowl record for quarterbacks — while completing 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns. The Eagles quarterback’s efficiency epitomized Philadelphia’s dominance, leading scoring drives that built an insurmountable 24-0 halftime lead.

The Eagles defense turned the game’s tide in the second quarter. Cooper DeJean’s 38-yard interception return for a touchdown highlighted a defensive master class that held Kansas City to just 23 total yards in the first half. Mahomes, facing relentless pressure, threw two interceptions and suffered six sacks.

“I take all the blame for that,” Mahomes said of his early turnovers. “Those early turnovers swing the momentum of the game … It’s hard to come back from that in the Super Bowl.”

Philadelphia’s offensive assault peaked in the third quarter when Hurts connected with DeVonta Smith on a 46-yard touchdown strike, pushing the lead to 34-0. The Chiefs managed late scores through Xavier Worthy, who caught two touchdown passes.

The victory marks Philadelphia’s second Super Bowl championship and ends Kansas City’s bid to become the first NFL team to win three consecutive Super Bowls. Moore’s offensive game plan proved masterful, as the Eagles controlled the clock and exploited defensive mismatches throughout the contest.

“We got a focused group out there,” Hurts stated after the game. “Offense was able to score points and take advantage of opportunities … and the defense played their a– off.”

From Boise State University’s Blue Turf to NFL Glory

Moore’s football career started at Boise State University, where he compiled an NCAA-record 50 wins from 2008 to 2011. The Broncos quarterback from Prosser, Washington, threw for 14,667 yards and 142 touchdowns during his college career, including two undefeated regular seasons.

His collegiate achievements set him apart as one of college football’s most efficient quarterbacks ever. Moore threw just 28 interceptions in 1,658 passing attempts — an NCAA record for lowest interception percentage.

Moore’s college career blazed new trails for Boise State University. He became the program’s highest-ranking Heisman Trophy finalist — placing fourth in 2010 — until the university’s record-setting running back Ashton Jeanty’s runner-up finish in 2024. Moore also earned four first-team All-American honors. His dominance in conference play resulted in WAC Freshman of the Year honors in 2008, back-to-back WAC Offensive Player of the Year awards in 2009 and 2010, and Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year recognition in 2011.

Despite his Boise State University achievements, NFL teams passed on Moore in the 2012 draft. He carved out a six-year career as a backup quarterback with the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys, studying the game from the sidelines while backing up Matthew Stafford and Tony Romo.

Moore’s deep understanding of offensive schemes caught Dallas’ attention, leading to his first coaching role as the Cowboys quarterbacks coach in 2018. His rapid rise continued with a promotion to offensive coordinator the following season, where he directed the Cowboys’ offense through 2022. A one-year stint orchestrating the Los Angeles Chargers offense in 2023 preceded his move to Philadelphia, where he transformed the Eagles into an offensive powerhouse. Under Moore’s leadership, Philadelphia’s offense ranked seventh in scoring and eighth in total yards, averaging 27.2 points and 367.2 yards per game.

Dominant Offense Sets Stage for Moore’s Next Move

The Super Bowl victory highlighted Moore’s offensive innovation. Philadelphia averaged 36.3 points per game during its playoff run, culminating in the win. Moore’s game plan maximized Hurts’ dual-threat capabilities while creating space for Saquon Barkley, who finished the season with an NFL record 2,500-plus rushing yards, including playoffs.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni praised Moore during the trophy ceremony. “Let’s run this back, Kellen,” Sirianni told Fox’s Tom Rinaldi during a postgame interview.

However, the 36-year-old coordinator’s next challenge appears set: leading his own NFL team as the next head coach of the New Orleans Saints. The victory showed he’s ready for that step, armed with championship experience and an offensive system that brought Philadelphia its second Super Bowl title.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie confirmed Moore’s probable departure to Yahoo Sports, stating, “Unfortunately, we’re gonna have to wish him the very best with New Orleans … Very smart coach who was able to adapt our offense week to week needed to win games.”

Moore’s Super Bowl triumph adds another achievement to his remarkable football journey. The championship performance demonstrated why many consider him one of football’s most innovative offensive minds, proving his college success was just the beginning of his impact on the sport. And he hasn’t forgotten his roots.

“I still love Boise [State University.] I love everything about that place,” Moore has said.

As he heads to New Orleans to become the NFL’s youngest head coach, Moore’s Super Bowl win with Philadelphia is the crowning achievement in a football journey that began on the Broncos’ blue turf.

The university football legacy blends innovation with consistent excellence, highlighted by its iconic blue turf installed in 1986, the first non-green artificial playing surface in college football. What began as athletic director Gene Bleymaier’s bold vision, what was nicknamed “Smurf Turf” by outsiders transformed into a symbol of the program’s distinctive character and blue-collar mentality.

Lyle Smith, who guided the team to a national championship in 1958 during its junior college era, built the program’s foundation. His impact remains honored at Lyle Smith Field at Albertsons Stadium, home to the famous blue turf that gives Boise State University one of college football’s most recognizable home-field advantages.

Since installing the blue turf, the university has compiled a remarkable 182-39 home record through 2018, including 14 conference championships. The program’s supremacy at home intensified after 1999, with only nine losses on the blue turf over nearly two decades.

For Boise State University, Moore’s Super Bowl triumph adds another chapter to a legacy of excellence that continues to resonate throughout professional football. Just as the program rose from small-college roots to national prominence, Moore’s ascent from backup quarterback to championship coordinator to head coach proves that the biggest victories often start with believing in bold possibilities.

However, it is also a haven for golf enthusiasts, offering some of the best golf courses in Europe. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or a beginner looking for a new challenge, Costa Brava boasts a wide array of golfing experiences set against beautiful Mediterranean backdrops.

  1. PGA Catalunya Resort

Undoubtedly one of Europe’s most prestigious golf resorts, PGA Catalunya Resort is a must-visit for any golfer heading to Costa Brava. Located just outside the town of Girona, the resort is home to two world-class golf courses: the Stadium Course and the Tour Course.

The Stadium Course is often regarded as one of the best golf courses in Spain. It has hosted the Spanish Open several times. It is known for its challenging layout, with narrow fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and water hazards that test even the most experienced players. The Tour Course offers a more relaxed but equally beautiful alternative for those looking for a less demanding round.

Both courses are set in a stunning landscape of rolling hills, pine forests, and tranquil lakes, making them perfect for golfers seeking both a challenge and an escape into nature.

  1. Empordà Golf

Located near the medieval town of Pals, Empordà Golf offers a unique golfing experience with two 18-hole courses: the Links Course and the Forest Course. Both courses are set in the heart of the Empordà region, an area famed for its natural beauty and proximity to the Mediterranean coast.

The Links Course is inspired by traditional British links courses, with wide fairways and strategically placed bunkers. It is a challenging course, with the coastal winds adding an extra layer of difficulty. On the other hand, the Forest Course offers a more relaxed atmosphere, with lush greenery and scenic views of the surrounding hills. Both courses are impeccably maintained and offer various tee options for all skill levels.

The Empordà Golf Resort also has a modern clubhouse, a driving range, and excellent facilities for beginners and experienced golfers.

  1. Golf Platja de Pals

What sets Golf Platja de Pals apart is its unique location, right next to the golden sands of Pals Beach. Golfers can enjoy a round with stunning sea views and a refreshing sea breeze that adds an extra dimension to the game. Pine trees border the course and offer a great mix of long, open fairways and narrow, tricky holes that require precision and strategy.

  1. Golf d’Aro – Mas Nou

Golf d’Aro – Mas Nou is a striking 18-hole golf course set in the hills above the picturesque town of Platja d’Aro. The course offers panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, making it one of the most scenic golf courses in the region.

Designed by renowned architect Ramon Espinosa, the course features challenging fairways and strategically placed water hazards, ensuring a memorable and rewarding golfing experience. The signature hole is the 7th, where golfers must navigate a water hazard in front of a spectacular backdrop of the surrounding mountains.

Golf d’Aro is part of a larger resort with a spa, restaurant, and tennis courts, offering golfers a full luxury experience. The course is also known for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere, with an excellent staff team to ensure a smooth and enjoyable round.

  1. La Sella Golf

Although located slightly inland, La Sella Golf is well worth a visit for golfers staying in Costa Brava. Located in the town of Denia, about an hour’s drive from the coast, the 27-hole course is set in a beautiful natural environment with views of the Montgó mountain range.

The course is divided into three nine-hole circuits, each offering a unique challenge. The Almadrava Course is known for its technical demands, tight fairways and strategically placed hazards. The Los Lagos Course is set amongst lakes and streams, while the La Sella Course offers a more traditional layout with tree-lined fairways.

In addition to the golf course, La Sella Golf boasts excellent practice facilities, a driving range, and a well-appointed clubhouse with a Mediterranean cuisine restaurant.

  1. Golf de Begur

Located on the Costa Brava’s rugged coastline, Golf de Begur is a smaller, more intimate golf course that offers an enjoyable round with stunning views. This 9-hole course is ideal for golfers looking for a more relaxed and leisurely game, but it still presents challenges with its undulating fairways, tricky greens, and scenic hazards.

The course is situated on a hill, offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, the village of Begur, and the Mediterranean Sea in the distance. It’s the perfect spot for those who want to enjoy a more intimate golfing experience while still enjoying the breathtaking scenery.
